Abstract

This article aims to understand peer interaction in influencing the emergence of romantic relationship patterns in elementary school children. The problem focuses on how social interaction with peers contributes to the formation of children's understanding and experiences related to emotional relationships in elementary school age. In order to approach this problem, Havighurst's social development theory and peer interaction theory are used as references. Data were collected through in-depth interviews with 6th grade elementary school students using the snowball sampling technique. Data were analyzed qualitatively using thematic analysis. The results of this study conclude that peer interaction plays an important role in the formation of romantic relationship patterns in elementary school children. This process involves sharing stories and discussing experiences with peers. The typical findings of this study reveal that social media also functions as a new role model for children, where they observe and imitate romantic behavior from content displayed by celebrities, influencers, and other figures on social media.
